A Savings Tip (From Me to You)

This post is sponsored by Optum Perks, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Hey y'all! How are you doing? I'm checking in for a moment to see how everyone is holding up. Personally, things go up and down in waves. Some days being stuck at home feels like a true blessing. I get to revel in my children and my husband and tend to my home or just read a book. Other days I feel the weight of the whole world crashing down on me. Actually, today was one of those tougher days. I'm thinking I may address some of my parenting struggles in a later post.

While I'm here I wanted to share something that I think may be a helpful resource during this time. I know that money is uncertain for many of us. So any opportunity to save a buck is worth sharing. Most of you are familiar with the concept of prescription discount cards / programs. But, I wanted to encourage you to give this one called Optum Perks a closer look. There is no signing up, no fee, nothing. Just savings.

WHY WE'RE USING IT:
Jamy and I don't have a traditional health insurance plan for our family. It's a story for another time but the short of it is that as the insurance industry changed we found an alternate 'cost sharing' plan to be the best for us. The only downside is that it doesn't pay for ANY medication and medicine is expensive. But you already know that.

Jamy and I both have standing prescriptions that we take daily. Thankfully they are not super expensive but even the cost of generics can add up. So we have been using Prescription coupons for a few years now. But it wasn't until recently when I went to the Optum Perks website that I realized I could have been saving an extra 50% on my Sertraline pills.

OVER $150 IN SAVINGS:
I simply went to the Optum Perks website, searched for my prescription, found a coupon and saved a lot! I actually intended to save a Prescription coupon for my current pharmacy. But while I was searching the name of my medication I realized I could save even more by using the Optum Perks prescription coupon at a different pharmacy down the street. That one simple search is going to save me over $150 a year. That's a lot for doing something so small and easy. I didn't even have to enter an email address.

So, before you refill your next prescription I would definitely recommend you head to their site by clicking HERE. Or you can pull it up on your phone in seconds and search through over 64,000 pharmacies at no cost to you. You don't even have to sign up for anything. And just like that you could be saving up to 80% on your prescriptions.

I genuinely hope this is as helpful to you as it was to us.

Times are weird right now. But we're all going through this together. You've got this!

STAY FRESH DURING YOUR CYCLE

This post is sponsored by Summer's Eve®  but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.
There are so many tricks of the trade that you learn as soon as you start getting your period. Like... no white jeans, how to hide a tampon when you're heading to the bathroom or even how to deal with menstrual breakouts. So, today, I'm going to be sharing a few of my favorite tricks.

STRETCHING:
If you've had children or are familiar with the post partum life, you probably know that getting back into your menstrual cycle is not fun and it can pop up in unexpected times. Not to mention that your post partum cycle can be quite different from the one you've been experiencing your whole life. Cramps and flow might be stronger. Odors may be different. The list goes on. So after having Helena, I'm having to revisit some of my tried and true period habits while also establishing some new ones.
One of my favorite ways to deal with period pain has always been yoga. Most of the moves that will bring menstrual relief are extremely easy and require no previous experience. Also, it doesn't hurt that doing a few minutes of yoga is likely to help with hormonal mood shifts. You can check out a list of some here.
MENSTRUAL CUPS:
I'm honestly really excited to try out menstrual cups this time around for multiple reasons. They save money and waste. They can stay in place longer than tampons. And there have been claims that some women experience less cramping using cups than traditional tampons. I'm planning to try one with my next cycle and will report back if I notice any differences.
COTTON, COTTON, COTTON:
I remember when I first realized that buying cute panties was a thing. I was obsessed with anything pink or glittery (oh how times have changed). But, as I got older I quickly realized just how important fabric choices were when it came to my 'lady business'. Man made fabrics which you often find are the cute stretchy/silky panties do.not.breathe. And air flow is a HUGE help when it comes to keeping things down there healthy and preventing unwanted odor. This is the same reason I like to use all organic cotton liners when necessary.
WIPES
Speaking of ::odor:: (Did you just cringe a little bit?) Summer's Eve® has a new line of Fresh Cycle™. This is their first line that is specifically targeted for your time of the month. And It's been clinically proven to reduce odor by removing odor-causing bacteria. The products I've been loving are the FreshCycle™ No-rinse Cleansing Foam and the FreshCycle™ Flushable Cleansing Cloths (Refer to product label for full flushability instructions). They both get things feeling (and smelling) fresh down there!

When you're at home, you can get at least 60 pumps  of the foam (When used as directed) by simply applying it to toilet paper and wiping . Or if you're looking for convenience the wipes are perfect whether you're at home or on the go.
And there you have it! My top tricks of the period trade that you never knew you wanted! Haha. Seriously though. It's something that almost all of us deal with so why not share a little insight when you have it.

Now, don't forget, when your next period comes around you can grab your Summer's Eve
® Fresh Cycleproducts from Target and you can even save with the carthwheel app!

Feeling Good in Your Pregnant Body

Curious about items from this look. Head HERE.

It's no secret that being pregnant can make you feel uncomfortable in your body. And I'm not just talking about the incontinence or hemorrhoids. (Yes, I said it.)  No matter what your normal pant size is, it can be absolutely depressing to watch your body morph into something you don't recognize. Believe me, it's a sensation I'm well familiar with. I typically gain 60 pounds in my pregnancies. Let that soak in for a second. Sixty. Pounds. But after going through it a few times I finally find myself with a better outlook on pregnancy and my body. So, I thought I would share a few "Feel Good About Yourself" tips just in case you needed a little pick me up today.

GET YOUR MIND RIGHT
Before I start sharing tips on clothes or makeup let's address what the base problem is. Your state of mind. When you look at yourself in the mirror or a photograph, you don't recognize the woman looking back at you. But that's ok! That woman in the mirror, is creating life where there was none. She's a badass. Even if she pees a little when she laughs. So, get to know her and love her.

Think about this: Your current weight and appearance. If you saw any other woman that looked like this out in the real world, would you judge her for her outward appearance. (For the sake of argument and humanity let's all say "No".) Of course you wouldn't. So why are you judging yourself so harshly? Your new look is different. But, it is not less than. It is just as beautiful and wonderful as it's always been.

DRESS FOR YOUR NEW BODY

Learning to dress for your body type is a valuable and tough skill to master whether you are pregnant or not. It took me 20 + years to realize that my 40 inch hips and flat chest were not going to pull off the same clothes that my athletic bodied besties could. It was a tough realization that took a lot of unfortunate fashion choices to embrace.

So what's the trick? Identify the parts of your body that you love and the parts that you wish you could trade with a Victoria's Secret model. Show off assets and hide the rest with loose fitting and/or dark fabrics.

I love my bump and the fact that I now have a semblance of a chest. But, I could do without the extra width and jiggle in my hips and legs. So, I wear tight clothes with a long line cardigan or coat to camouflage my hips. Voila.

FIND SOMETHING THAT MAKES YOU FEEL SEXY

Hair, Nails, Shoes, Jewelry... whatever it is. If there is something that never fails to make you feel put together and fancy, then make an effort to fit that into your day whenever you can. For me it's makeup. My hair will be in a pile on top of my head and I may be wearing leggings and a sweater most days, but I love making time for makeup. The application process relaxes me and having it on always makes me feel a little more like myself.

(I understand that time and money are legitimate factors when it comes to some of these suggestions, but if you can comfortably manage it, then go for it!)

KEEP IT MOVING

With Hudson and Holland, I literally had no energy whatsoever. And by the end of both pregnancies I felt like a beached whale. But, with this pregnancy, I've continued to work and also chase after two young kids. My days include a lot of getting up and down off the ground and lifting small humans, so I'm still getting at least some minimal exercise. And I honestly feel a million times more energetic because of it. The really great part is that energy is also super helpful for accomplishing my first three tips!

You don't have to go to a gym, but continue to make an effort to get a walk in or play hard with the kids rather than phoning it in. (Window shopping at the mall is also fun exercise when the weather is bad.)

Hopefully some of these tips were helpful! Let me know if you have any other tips on feeling good during pregnancy!

P.S. If you have the scoop on any good black friday deals for baby/pregnancy stuff, let me know! I've been scoping out the Bed Bath and Beyond sale for nursery and home items and already found some great deals on cribs and gliders.

Happy Wednesday Y'all!! 😘

Staying Creative and Learning a New Skill

This post is sponsored by Fender but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Happy Monday, Ladies! We're getting super pumped for the holidays over here... and holiday shopping! And Holiday Food! Basically we're just excited for all of it! As this pregnancy progresses I'm starting to get a bit uncomfortable and tired, so I'm also looking forward to a week off with no school or work. However, while I may be lacking physical energy my mind is still racing with ideas for new projects and hobbies. If my brain were an internet browser It would have about 20 tabs open right now, with plans to redecorate, remodel, bake, write, paint and play. It's that magical second trimester energy combined with a touch of nesting, I suppose. But pregnant or not, it's always a good idea to keep learning new things, which is why I was super pumped to partner with Fender this week!

Fun Fact about me: I've always had a secret desire to be a musician. Not the high school version of me that played a mediocre 3rd chair clarinet. But the kind of creative soul that could just whip out their guitar and start singing when the desire struck. The thing about learning a new instrument, though, is there is a major lack of convenience. When I was younger, learning an instrument meant getting your parents to drive you to lessons every week, outside of all the other extra curriculars. Once I was older, my adult life got in the way. Thankfully, technology is on my side now and I can have a personal tutor right at my fingertips on demand.

The Fender Play app is awesome for a million reasons, but in short, it can teach a complete novice (i.e. Me) how to play their first song on the guitar, bass or ukulele in just 22 minutes. When you open the app you're given a choice of music genres to pick from, whether you're a folk fan or a wannabe pop star. After choosing your style, you start down a guided path of professional, bite sized videos that take you from the very basics and eventually lead you to a catalog of popular songs to master.

But Here's The Real Tea:
Since getting our guitar last Christmas I've tried other at home programs and I can tell you that the Fender App is by far the most user friendly of the ones I've tried.

After only a few days of 5 to 10 minute sessions with the app I already feel  my creative juices flowing more in every aspect of my life. Not to mention, taking those few minutes to focus on something fun and just for me is a MAJOR stress reliever. Also, if it's possible... I think my fingers are getting stronger? 😂  Other benefits to learning an instrument include increased self-expression,  patience, confidence, work ethic and stronger hand eye coordination! Who doesn't want that in their life?

You can check out a short clip of my first time trying out the app here;

And I highly encourage you to give yourself a creative and mental boost with Fender by downloading the app for a free 14 day trial! If you decide to stick with the app after those 14 days, you'll also get a 10% discount on all fender products for the entirety of your annual plan. I really hope you check it out and love it as much as I do!

Now, I'm off to practice. I promised Holland I would learn to play that Moana song she's obsessed with. Wish me luck! 😘

Save Time and Stress During the Halloween Rush

This post is sponsored by Red Baron but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Well guys, it finally happened! We own a house! Praise God! We actually closed on it today which is my birthday, so it's safe to say this will be the fanciest birthday present I ever receive. With the chaos of work, school, two kids and pregnancy we're going to take our time moving in as we plan to paint and fix up the house this week and move in over the next weekend or so.

In other exciting news, we have our 20 week anatomy exam this Monday! Which means we'll finally get a better look at our newest babe and find out what the gender is! Which is perfect timing, because I'm ready to start decorating a nursery!

Needless to say... life is busy. In a very good way. So, I'm all about saving time wherever I can.

Which brings me to my partner for today's post, Red Baron!

Halloween has always been in my top two favorite Holidays and when I can I love to go all out as you can see in these pics.

But, some years I just can't deal with the added effort of dressing Jamy and myself up along with the kids. Actually, this Halloween is looking like it will be one of those years. We'll be lucky if we can even get the kids ready in time for trick or treating since it's a school night. Two Halloween's ago we were so pressed for time, poor Holland ended up in an old kitty costume that was so small for her I had to just cut the feet off of it and call it good! 😂

So instead of spending too much time preparing dinner we'll be popping one of these Red Baron Brick Oven Pizzas into the oven and having a spooky pizza night! And hopefully we'll be able to avoid any future costume war stories!

Speaking of costumes, I would love to know what you and/your kids are going as this year? Let me know in the comments. And don't forget, to check out Red Baron to help with the Halloween Rush!

How I'm Avoiding Mom Brain

This post is sponsored by Zynga, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Our life has been in a state of flux for the last few months. We have a lot of major life changes happening right now. As most of you know we are currently living with my mom while we house hunt. It's been a good transition, but also one that has made me feel a little brain dead. I've been missing deadlines and social dates left and right. And I feel like my brain may be stuck in a state of chaos until we get back into a normal routine with a space of our own.

But you don't have to be in between homes to feel chaotic. Just being a mom is enough to make your head feel foggy and overwhelmed. So I thought I would share some tips and tricks to keep your brain sharp!

FREE UP SPACE IN YOUR BRAIN

It's getting close to that time of year when I invest in a new planner and organizational tools galore! While my heightened since of organization usually lasts for a couple of months. Studies have shown if you utilize tools to organize the mundane things in your life, i.e. appointment dates, where your keys are, etc., you can devote more mental energy to the important things.

KEEP LEARNING NEW THINGS

Have you noticed that the further removed you are from your school days the less sharp you feel? I swear I was pretty bright back in high school! Well, actively learning new skills helps to maintain brain cells.

STAY SOCIALLY ACTIVE

Being a mom, especially if you are a SAHM, it can be hard to keep up with your social life. Believe me, this is not an area, I excel in . But, staying present in the world outside your home/kids is an important part to keeping up your mental and emotional energy. Mommy and me groups are great for this kind of interaction. But, groups with a focus on learning or studying something are even better. I've personally benefited from the women's bible studies at our church. I get the social connections that I desire and use the time to learn and think deeper than diapers and toys.

REPITTION

Just like taking notes in high school, when you learn new things, they'll stick better if you repeat them aloud or write them down. I've been keeping a journal with me in my car the last few months, so when I make a new discovery in my counseling sessions or bible study, I can write it down while it's fresh on my mind.

WORD AND NUMBER GAMES
I've always loved completing the puzzles in the newspaper or crosswords in the back of a magazine. Even in my college days I preferred trivia night at the local bar over a night out dancing. So, I love to pop out my phone after the kids are in bed for a little word action with Words With Friends 2.

Jamy and I love playing WWF2 because it's a quick and easy way to interact with our friends in other states or with each other throughout the day!

Other great tips to help your brain stay fit are to keep your body active and diet healthy! Easier said than done, but I figured it was worth mentioning!

So, if you've been feeling in the mental doldrums lately, I hope some of these tips will be helpful! Get out there, buy a planner, join a class and download WWF2 HERE!

Let me know what other tips you have to stay on top of it through Motherhood, in the comments. And come find me on WWF2 (username: Bcanfield11)

Staying Balanced During the Unbalanced Seasons of Life

This post is sponsored by Activia but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Hey all! I'm popping in for a quick life update because it's been a hot minute since I've talked about anything outside of shopping on here!  First things first... we are still living with my mom! Which is still going well, but obviously not quite as nice as having your own place. Also on the subject of houses, we are potentially switching gears from building our new home to buying a fixer upper. (But not a major project.) I'll update you more on that when things become more final.

With this blog business, I've been taking on a few fun projects that I'm really excited about! I recently started working with our local Children's museum doing promotional posts and full Instagram takeovers to give live coverage of their bigger events. This past weekend was all about their first annual Duck Derby fundraiser. It was tons of fun and you can check it out HERE. I'm also in talks to participate in another blogger crawl at my favorite local shopping center. The last one was such a great experience and this one seems like it will be even better!

Now, onto today's post! I teamed up with Activia to outline a few  ways I'm trying to keep my life balanced and in check while our living situation is a little out of the norm and very busy.

Mental/Spiritual Balance:

I'm sure it's no surprise that being stuck in a small bedroom with my husband and sharing a home with two young (loud) children and my mom isn't the best environment to find quiet or alone time in. It was a bit of the struggle in the beginning to fit in Me time.

Lately I've been finding refuge during my daughter's bed time routine. She likes to have me stay with her until she falls asleep. Which can take a while. So I've taken to reading my bible under a small book light while I sit next to her bed. It kills two birds with one stone. And sitting in the dimmed room with her sound machine on is actually kind of relaxing!

I'm also continuing to visit my counselor every few weeks as I mentioned in a previous post HERE.

Fitness & Diet Balance:
Between running kids around between summer camps, trying to get our old condo ready for market and meeting deadlines for the blog I haven't been as motivated or available to eat well or head to the gym. The number of times we've eaten out or ordered pizza this month is pretty shameful.

  • Fitness: I've essentially been donating $80 to my gym every month, since I haven't been there in ages! So when the kids are playing outside I try to go out with them as much as possible. We just introduced Hudson Flag Football which has been a good way to work up a sweat.

I also love to search YouTube for 10 - 15 minute workouts that can be done at home!
  • Diet: As I said, Pizza has been in regular rotation around here. And when snack time comes around it's been a lot of chips and candy.... I'm basically living like a college student. Without the high metabolism or lack of acid reflux.

So lately I've been trying to stock up on healthier options that are easy to take on the go. Nuts, Fruit and Pre packed salads for work. When my sweet tooth hits me, I have a secret stash of chocolate chips. I grab a few to satisfy my craving without over indulging in a full on candy bar.

To help balance it all out, I also started the Activia Dailies two week challenge! So far, I've actually been pleasantly surprised. In combination with the other lifestyle changes, I feel a lot better. The new Activia Dailies are a small yogurt drink packed with billions of live and active probiotics! Since I've started drinking them, things have been a lot more..... um.... regular? I'll just leave it at that. But overall having my gut health in check makes the rest of my to do list a lot easier and more comfortable! They also taste great and are easy to consume quickly twice a day!
So, the moral of the story is Less Pizza; More Activia!

And right now you can try them out with a $1 rebate from ibotta by clicking HERE.

What things do you do to stay calm and balanced when your life circumstances are out of the norm? I would love to hear more in the comment section, or feel free to DM me on Insta/Facebook! Especially if you have experience living with parents!

Looking forward to chatting with you! 😘

My Morning Routine : 2018

This post is sponsored by Left Field Farms, but the content and opinions expressed here are my own.

Head HERE to learn more about Left Field Farms!

It's finally Friday and I'm sitting at home in my sweats. While the kids and Jamy are watching the basketball game, I decided to hop on here and check in with you guys! I guess this is what weekends in your thirties look like! 😂

If you are one of my Insta friends, then you probably know we moved in with my mom recently! What's meant to be an interim housing situation has it's perks and set backs. The kids have been in heaven with Nana's home made pancakes every morning. And our dinners have been a million times more nutritious. But, with three adults and two young kids, alone time is scarce and morning routines are getting a little bit of tweaking.

Previously, I would wake up, quickly get the kids ready and then spend thirty minutes or so at my Vanity. I would use this time to mentally prep for the day, relaxing with my makeup and listening to sermons or podcasts. But, I don't have a vanity (or even any designated "Brittany" space anymore) so things look pretty different now.

FIRST THINGS FIRST: COFFEEOne of the perks of living at mom's is the coffee is already brewed when I wake up. So the only thing holding me back from my caffeine is the 30 seconds it takes to grab a cup and pour in the creamer!

I'll pause for a few seconds here to check emails and social media. Then it's off to the kids' room to start getting them dressed and groomed for school.

MY REFLECTION TIME IS NOW MINIMAL MAKEUP APPLIED OVER THE BATHROOM SINK:Once the kids are dressed Nana takes over with pancake duty and I head to the bathroom for some quick skincare and makeup.

Morning Skincare:
Cleanser
Toner
Moisturizer

For my quick Makeup Routine check out this video!

FINDING QUIET TIME:
With a less inviting place to do my morning routine, I find myself spending less time getting ready which then gives me a few minutes to settle my heart and mind for the day ahead. So, I take those minutes and my coffee to go. It's not quite the same as being alone at my desk, but being on the road with my favorite worship music and the sounds of my sweet kids singing along, is a close second.

All of this is still a work in progress and I'm toying with the idea of waking up earlier so I can have the house to myself... but sleep is precious... so we'll see. If you have any pro tip secrets for how to keep your mornings productive but still relaxed, I would love to know them!

P.S. None of this would be possible without my morning coffee! (Jk... sort of 😉) So, I'm super excited to share my favorite Coffee Creamer with you all again! Check out this post to see some of my favorite ways to use it!

You can grab Left Field Farms creamer for yourself at your local Wal Mart for less that $4! And you don't have to sacrifice anything for the price/convenience. Left Field Farms is actually the FIRST national dairy brand to be Non-GMO Project certified. So you can rest assured that your getting nothing but the real deal!
